On June 22, 1969, fourteen people met in the rented apartment of the founding Pastor, Charles Arrowood, for the first service of Bible Baptist Church. The next day the church was offered the free use of a building on Independence Boulevard. On August 1, 1969, the church was officially organized with nineteen charter members.
The same week of the church organization, the church was led to the present property on Margaret Wallace Road. Situated on four acres of property was a six-room house which was used as a temporary meeting place until January of 1972. The church arranged a "rent to own" agreement with the Tarlton family for $105 per month. After one year, the land was given to the church. In January of 1972, the church moved into a brand new 250-seat auditorium. This building is presently known as the C-wing and houses the school office, nurseries, and some classrooms. In June 1975, a larger auditorium with educational space beneath was completed and dedicated on the sixth anniversary of the church.
In August of 1976, Bible Baptist Christian School was founded with 41 students.
In June 1978, the church called Dr. James M. Phillips as pastor of Bible Baptist Church. Under his ministry, the church grew tremendously. In 1980, four additional acres of property were purchased, a ball field was constructed, and a full college-sized gymnasium was erected. In 1984, the present two-story lobby was built to join the two educational buildings, and the auditorium was enlarged. Later, the old auditorium (in upper B-wing) was converted to classroom space and the present 1,000 seat auditorium was added to the facility in 1988.
In 1997, another acre adjacent to our property was purchased to provide much needed space for parking our buses. The Lord has done wonderful things in providing ten acres on which the ministry is located. Also, in 1997, the church called Dr. Ron Allen as Co-Pastor of the ministry. On August 8, 1999, Pastor Phillips retired and became Pastor Emeritus. Pastor Allen then became the senior pastor.
Also in 1999, the church added a wing adjacent to the gymnasium that included a full commercial kitchen, storage room and laundry facilities. In 2005 the ministry purchased another home behind the church which serves to provide housing for our missionary families while on furlough. March 2008 marked the beginning of our Hispanic ministry, Iglesia Bautista Biblica. Under the leadership of missionary pastor, Mervin Fox, the ministry witnessed its first convert during the second week of its existence. Now led by Pastor Jose Torres, the ministry continues to flourish and grow as it reaches out to the vast Hispanic mission field at our doorstep.
